Care for the World Symposium
Many thanks to MedInfo for this great event, and especially to Thomas Karopka (Chair IMIA OS WG) and Paul Turner (Associate Professor, eHealth Services Research Group, University of Tasmania, Australia) for inviting me to be part of their symposium and workshop. It’s an honor for me to share with you such an important event, and to promote the adoption of Free Software in Public Health.
Looking forward to meeting all of you in Copenhagen !

GNU Health has been awarded the Best Project of Social Benefit from the Free Software Foundation in 2012.
GNU Health is an
official GNU Package , chosen by Richard Stallman, and is part of GNU Solidario. GNU Solidario is a NGO that delivers education and health to emerging economies with free software. GNU Health is the Hospital Information System chosen by the United Nations International Institute of Global Health. GNU Solidario and the United Nations University, International Institute for Global Health have signed an agreement to implement and to train GNU Health globally.21 Friday Sep 2012

GNU Health is a free Health and Hospital Information System that provides the following functionality :
GNU Health has been awarded the Best Project of Social Benefit from the Free Software Foundation in 2012.
GNU Health is the Hospital Information System chosen by the United Nations International Institute of Global Health. GNU Solidario and the United Nations University, International Institute for Global Health have signed an agreement to implement and to train GNU Health globally.

inEstoy contento de anunciar que la Academia GNU Health se estrenará el próximo 27 de Junio 2011 con un anfitrión muy especial: United Nations University (UNU), en Kuala Lumpur.
La UNU International Institute for Global Health (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) lleva a cabo la investigación, el desarrollo de capacidad y la difusión de conocimiento relacionada a temas claves de la salud humana. El objetivo es contribuir con el desarrollo y el refuerzo de marcos de servicios de salud y medidas de política de gestión, particularmente para las personas en países en desarrollo y para apoyar la implementación del enfoque preventivo y de promoción para la salud humana [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_University ]
Estaré formando el personal de la UNU, que es nuestro partner en Asia. La UNU – IIGH se encargará de formar los profesionales de la salud locales en el uso de GNU Health, el Sistema libre de Gestión Hospitalaria y de Información de Salud.
Como he dicho en otro blog, este es otro ejemplo de como el Software Libre puede aprovechar los recursos para ayudar los países en desarrollo. Mi agradecimiento al Sr. Nurhizam Safie Mohd Satar, quien encabeza el proyecto de integración de GNU Health (AKA Medical) en United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health (IIGH).
Este esfuerzo en común aumentará el numero de médicos utilizando el Software Libre y todos nos aprovecharemos de sus valiosos comentarios.

inThe UNU International Institute for Global Health (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) undertakes research, capacity development and dissemination of knowledge related to key issues of human health. The aim is to contribute to the development and strengthening of health services policy frameworks and management actions, particularly for people in developing countries, and to support implementation of promotive and preventive approach to human health [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_University ]
I will be training the UNU personnel, which are our local partners in Asia. The UNU – IIGH will train local health proffessionals in the use of GNU Health, the Free Health and Hospital Information System.
As I said in a previous post, this is another example of how free software can leverage the resources to help the developing countries. Many thanks to Mr Nurhizam Safie Mohd Satar who is leading the MEDICAL integration project at the United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health (IIGH).
This common effort will increase the amount of physicians using Free Software, and we will all benefit with their valuable feedback.

The United Nations University (UNU) has adopted MEDICAL
United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health (IIGH) ( http://www.unu.edu ) has joined the MEDICAL community. MEDICAL will offer them an online teaching resource for a Hospital Information System (HIS).
GNU Solidario and UNU are now working together in specific areas, such as the documentation process. GNU Solidario will also work with UNU in the installation of a demo server.
This is yet another great example of how free software can leverage the resources to help the developing countries. Many thanks to Mr Nurhizam Safie Mohd Satar who is leading the MEDICAL integration project at the United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health (IIGH).
This common effort will increase the amount of physicians using Free Software, and we will all benefit with their valuable feedback.
I take the opportunity to thank the United Nations and their Development Program – UNDP – ( http://www.undp.org) , since it’s been supporting our mission since 2009. Mr Raul Zambrano, Senior Policy Advisor on ICT and Governance for the UNDP, was one of the lecturers at IWEEE (http://www.iweee.org) 2010 in Las Palmas.
