Kisiizi Hospital is located in the Republic of Uganda in Western region near the boarder of DR congo. Kisiizi Hospital treats about 300,000 residents with the nearest hospital nearly 100 kilometers away, in Kabaale, it serves as a health haven for most residents who can barely afford pain killers.
With support from many well wishers from UK, the hospital also trains Nurses at the Nursing school, these in turn are employed at the hospital. The hospital generates its own power through a hydro power plant. Its capacity is 250 beds.
We at Geomaqs Technologies Ltd are helping the hospital implement a management Information System based on openerp.
We would like to adopt medical as a HIS/MRS. Are there any members who have functional modules for openerp 5.0.14, reply mokongo@geomaqs.com

The Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) is the largest and most modern hospital in Suriname.

The AZP was founded march 9, 1966 as a central hospital and was changed into the Academic Hospital Paramaribo in 1969 gaining its university status. The current staff consists of about 1700 co-workers. The AZP Hospital has a 470 bed capacity.

On a yearly basis 20.000 patients are hospitalized, while about 176.0000 out-patients visit the hospital.

We greatly appreciate AZP commitment to Medical and support to our organization, GNU Solidario. We are working with AZP to initially provide specific functionality in pediatric care and cardiology. This is a clear example on how large hospitals can collaborate to Free software, where the rest of the world will also benefit.

The following is the complete / uncut transcript of the interview I got from Nicoleta Gherlea in 2010  when I was named top OpenERP contributor.

Interview with Luis Falcon Wed, 12/01/2010 – 15:42 _ admin

*Age:* 40

*Located in:* Argentina and Spain

*Occupation:* Founder of Thymbra and GNU Solidario

*Blog:* http://meanmicio.blogspot.com

*Tweett: *@meanmicio

Tell us about about yourself :

How would you describe yourself:

Social activist. I love working on the field, learning from people in
hospitals and rural areas, combining medicine and computer science (in that
order).

I like simplicity and try to stay away from any kind of _sophistication_
(food, clothes, programs, people,….).

Who or what in your life would you say influenced you most?

My parents.

What is the best birthday present you could receive?

Hope and dignity for the children in developing countries.

What do you do in your spare time?

Enjoy family.

What is your favourite place in the world?

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Tell us about about You and OpenERP

When did you start working on OpenERP?

Long time ago. In 2005 (TinyERP at that time).

What got you excited about OpenERP?

Free Software. Versatile. Small

Can you tell us more about your key contributions?

   –

Medical : The Free Health and Hospital Information System. Large project
running today on different health centres around the world (
   http://medical.sf.net)
   –

Started the Argentinian and Spanish localization, including electronic
   invoicing
   –

Created in 2007 the OpenERP Academy in LatinAmerica, bringing OpenERP to
   the Spanish speaking community.

What attracts you to Open Source?

I like more the Free Software concept.

Free software is about sharing and building communities. It a great tool for
the development of societies.

Wrote my first GPL program in 1995 (netload). It’s still being shipped on
most GNU/Linux distros.

What is your most embarrassing OpenERP moment?

I will tell you as soon as it happens 😉

Any personal message to other members of the community ?

I’m worried about how _the industry_ is getting into the Free Software. At
the end of the day, is your actions what count, not the tools you use.

If OpenERP was …what would it be :
An animal : A goat. Cabra loca 🙂 A colour : Blue

A famous character : Monty Python rabbit.

A Dish : Potaje de lentejas

A Song : Libertango

——-

Update: The interview was removed from the site when I started to criticize the lack of freedom and democracy on the OpenERP (Odoo) project.
The OpenERP project was rebranded as Odoo
The Medical project was continued as GNU Health
