About GNU Health Patchsets

We provide “patchsets” to stable releases. Patchsets allow applying bug fixes and updates on production systems. Always try to keep your production system up-to-date with the latest patches.
Patches and Patchsets maximize uptime for production systems, and keep your system updated, without the need to do a whole installation.
For more information about GNU Health patches and patchsets you can visit https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GNU_Health/Patches_and_Patchsets
NOTE: Patchsets are applied on previously installed systems only. For new, fresh installations, download and install the whole tarball (ie, gnuhealth-3.0.2.tar.gz)

Updating your system with the GNU Health control Center

Starting GNU Health 3.x series, you can do automatic updates on the GNU Health and Tryton kernel and modules using the GNU Health control center program.
Please refer to the administration manual section ( https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GNU_Health/Control_Center )
The GNU Health control center works on standard installations (those done following the installation manual on wikibooks). Don’t use it if you use an alternative method or if your distribution does not follow the GNU Health packaging guidelines.

Summary of this patchset

  • Issues with GTK client on MS, and performance improvements
  • GNU Health control now includes automatic download of security patches from its components[1]. There is always Security Advisory (SA) associated to the patch.
  • New site for GNU Health translation portal is now at translate.gnusolidario.org. GNU Health control has been updated to fetch the language packs from the new URL.
  • Bug fixes on reports, especially on dates, ages and date formats.
  • Gnuhealth-control has been updated. These tools are also packaged separately, with their own numbering, so you can always download the latest version without the need of applying a patchset.
Refer to the List of issues related to this patchset for a comprehensive list of fixed bugs.

Installation Notes

You must apply previous patchsets before installing this patchset. If your patchset level is 3.0.1, then just follow the general instructions. You can find the patchsets at GNU Health FTP site (ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/health/)
Follow the general instructions at
  • https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GNU_Health/Patches_and_Patchsets
  • https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GNU_Health/Control_Center

This is an interview with Dr Tom Kane and his student Euan Livingstone in Tom’s office at Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) on 2016-07-06.
Tom and Euan are investigating ways of running GNU Health for evaluation and demonstration purposes, using multiple Raspberry Pi systems and an Intel NUC. In particular they want to evaluate the conformity of interoperability (FHIR) standards, and are trying to build a reference implementation for decision makers who are procuring a Health and Hospital Information System … read more

With the purpose to optimize primary care, as well as avoiding paperworks and delays, the Ministry of Health through the Health Services of Morelos (SSM) will implement GNU Health, a free software Health and Hospital Information System, adopted by the University of United Nations and the Ministries of Health of other countries. By 2018 this software will be able to make all the medical records of 7 General Hospitals, 3 Community Hospitals and 204 Health Centers fully electronic (EMR) in order to satisfy the functionality of the medical history, hospital management and Health Information System (HIS).

This project will allow a better coordination between first and second level of health care, becauseit will be able to schedule appointments and get labs results with no need to attend the units, always guaranteeing the confidentiality of patients’ data. Given this new technology and with the goal to make the system more efficient, the Informatics Team of SSM will be trained by Luis Falcón, MD and Computer Scientis, creator of the system GNU Health.

Mr. Armand Mpassy-Nzoumba, GNU Solidario representative in Africa, provided a GNU Health Training at the Centre of Medical Research of Franceville (Gabon).

These are some words from Mr. Armand Mpassy-Nzoumba about this great project:

” During the Training of GNU Health we implemented the lab modules of GNU Health. It was done in replacement of of similar software which did no longer met user requirements. The lab team, of about 15 members, was trained. After implementation we noticed a number of improvements including:

  • Improved quality of medical lab analyses
  • improved process time. It took 3 to 5 days to deliver results. Now results can be delivers the same day
  • A full patient database.
  • Improved reliability of the software. The previous one did have a number of bigs and required a lot of maintenance
  • Improved return on investment thanks to free and open source software … “
